a date with the constabulary

The Equals - Police on My Back (from Greatest Hits, 1994) - The original 1968 version, featuring the talents of a young Eddy Grant (before he decided to cruise Electric Avenue as a solo artist).

The Clash - Police on My Back (from Sandinista! 1980) - The one flawless diamond in a six-sided pile of dross.

(Inspired by the works of Chris Sims, current Scion of the Arashikage Clan.)

well some of us think Sandinista! is a masterpiece

...of extreme hubris, yes.

As a triple album, it makes an excellent mini LP.

Hmmmm. Good post, and thanks. I did not know that "Police on my back" was a cover. I like the Clash version better.

What about "Magnificent 7" and "Crooked Beat"?

Your comments on Sandinista are pretty harsh, especially after posting Sham 69 a few posts ago

I can hardly wait for Dick Tracy in "The Guns of Brixton" or the Andy Capp mix of "Clampdown."

Well on the topic of covers, 'guns of brixton' supplied the riddim for 'dub be good to me' the one with the strange 'humming' break (or so I thought at the time, it's now become familiar.
Isn't that the way with almost every song one hears?)

Harsh indeed!! No arguement with some filler on it but an EP? I always thought about half was great, several songs were just them stretching out, showcasing various genres of music, and then the dub versions. What's wrong with having a little fun??

Ha, Sandinista was a masterpiece and a huge return to what the Clash were really about after the mainstream rawk of the ever so dull London Calling.

Joe was very proud of it and rightly so.
