The terrfying collision between my Halloween Countdown and Bahlactus's Friday Night Fights continues, and this week's fight card features a titanic tussle between two creatures born of Promethean scientific hubris:
The ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing versus Frankenstein's Monster!

It all happened in Fantastic Four #274 (January 1985), written and pencilled by John Byrne, with inks by Al Gordon. Should you feel your loyalties being stretched in two directions, have no fear; everything turns out just peachy in the end...
"Frankie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship...or one kick-ass buddy flick."
Nicole Paquin - Mon Mari C'est Frankenstein (from Ultra Chicks Volume 1: Filles in the Garage, 1998) - Lately I've been grooving to 60's Eurobscurities -- not just non-Anglophone rock and roll material like this charming track (whose title translates to "My Husband is Frankenstein") but a lot of moddishly oddball soundtrack and music library material as well. There's nothing quite as exciting as discovering a new vein of high grade retro ore to mine, especially when it's extremely danceable, too.

I didn't like this issue when it first came out, because the cover suggested that at last Ben was returning from from Secret Wars World and was ready to rejoin the FF. (Also I was a little freaked out by Al Gordon's very fine inkwork, which looked significant different than Byrne's own inking).
Now that I'm older and wiser, I realize there is nothing more kick-ass than The Thing and Frankenstein's Monster punching each other out.
I agree Bully, we totally lacked perspective.
Of course I didn't like the issue because it was taking me away from my previous She-Hulk, but to each his own FF.
(Go HERBIE! Boo Human Torch!)
